| dc.description | SUMMARY.The study addresses a critically important issue: the potential emergence of endemic zones for tropical diseases in Ukraine, which is directly linked to global climate changes in Europe. Foremost among these is West Nile fever, which has repeatedly manifested as epidemic outbreaks in Europe and Ukraine over the past two decades. Currently, all the necessary conditions have developed for West Nile fever to become an endemic disease in Europe and Ukraine. Biological reservoirs for the West Nile virus are now present in Europe and Ukraine, along with a broad range of corresponding vectors-carriers, as well as a high susceptibility of the European and Ukrainian populations to this pathogen. The study provides detailed insights into the epidemiological characteristics of West Nile fever, the biological properties of its vectors, and the factors and conditions that directly contribute to the virus’s establishment in the European region. The new climatic conditions, the biology of the vectors, and the pathogen’s specific features suggest that West Nile fever has already become a naturally endemic disease in Europe and Ukraine, exhibiting distinct cyclic epidemic patterns. The high prevalence of clinical forms of West Nile fever in Ukraine, which are marked by central nervous system involvement, severe progression, and high mortality rates, poses urgent challenges for healthcare systems in Europe and Ukraine. These require immediate resolution within the shortest timeframes, with the key recommendations outlined in this study. Additionally, the research specifically examines issues related to the immunoprophylaxis of West Nile fever among Ukraine’s population, which can already be implemented in clinical practice. | en-US |
| uk-UA |
