Background. Mine contamination in Ukraine remains a serious security challenge not only on land but also in marine and freshwater environments. During the ongoing full-scale war, the demining of rivers, reservoirs, and sea areas has become critically important. Particularly dangerous zones include territories that were temporarily occupied, areas of active hostilities, the region affected by the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, as well as the Black and Azov Seas. Underwater explosive devices pose significant risks to civilian populations, maritime navigation, and aquatic ecosystems. Materials and Methods. The study is based on theoretical analysis, generalization, and systematization of scientific publications on underwater mine detection, classification, and clearance technologies. The analysis was conducted using major scientometric databases, including ESCI, ResearchBib, Index Copernicus, Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory, Open Ukrainian Citation Index, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Web of Science, WorldWideScience, Science.gov, Google Scholar, BASE, the V.I. Vernadsky National Library database, Directory of Open Access Journals, and Scite.ai. Results. The study evaluates the current state of mine contamination in Ukrainian marine and freshwater areas and its impact on military operations, civilian safety, maritime navigation, and the environment. Legislative frameworks regulating mining and demining processes are analyzed. Modern underwater mine-clearance technologies are reviewed, including sonar-based detection methods, synthetic aperture sonar systems, underwater drones, remotely operated vehicles, and machine learning approaches for processing hydroacoustic data. The role of divers and explosive ordnance disposal specialists is examined, together with international practices of their professional training. Special attention is given to the medical and psychological preparation of specialists and the importance of baromedicine and hyperbaric physiology for maintaining their health and operational capability. Conclusions. Underwater mine clearance is a key factor in ensuring safety in marine and freshwater environments. Future development of demining operations is associated with automated systems, unmanned underwater vehicles, and advanced sonar technologies. Synthetic aperture sonar significantly improves underwater imaging and mine detection. Although autonomous systems are increasingly used, highly qualified diving specialists remain essential for complex underwater tasks. The development of underwater demining technologies in Ukraine requires the integration of NATO experience together with national technological and training initiatives.en-US
