Abstract
Mathematical modeling is the most efficient method to improve the design of dialyzer unit and to study what parameters affecting performance of membrane dialysis. The goal of this research project is to investigate of specific parameters of the mathematical model of the process of membrane dialysis using dedicated COMSOL standalone application with aim on optimization of performance and characteristics of the process of dialysis. The results of the simulation of the dialysis process is studied. Initial findings indicated that increasing the diffusion coefficient of the liquid phases of the dialyzer fiber significantly improved the clearance of the hollow fiber. Better results are obtained by adjusting of two model parameters at a time: • increasing of the width of the concentric permeate channel and increasing of the diffusion coefficient of the liquid phases sets expected contamination removal rate up to 84.5% • increasing of the width of the concentric permeate channel and increasing of the diffusion coefficient of the membrane sets expected contamination removal rate up to 74.2%
